Event details

The CMU Opera Workshop class presents a reduced version of Purcell's Dido and Aeneas. This version of the opera more closely explores the passions and fears of Dido, queen of Carthage as she struggles between duty and love. Setting the show in 1990's corporate America allows a different perspective on the characters and relationships of Henry Purcell's 1689 original. This allows us a greater understanding and compassion for Dido (CEO of Carthage Communications) as she is torn between accepting the financial support and proposal of Aeneas (ex-CEO of Troy.Net) and her unrequited and potentially scandalous love for her assistant Belinda. Duration 30 minutes. Content advisory: suicide is portrayed in this opera.
